FAQ & Help

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is WhoPays?

WhoPays is a shared spending tracker that keeps balances fair by telling you who should pay next. Add your group, tap "I paid," and the app keeps everyone near even without end-of-trip math.

2. How does WhoPays decide who is next?

Each expense or recorded payment updates running balances. The person who owes the group the most is highlighted in the "next payer" banner so the rotation stays balanced automatically.

3. Does WhoPays support multiple currencies?

Yes. Log expenses in any currency—WhoPays keeps exchange rates up to date and shows both the original and converted amounts in the group currency.

4. What platforms are supported?

WhoPays is available on iPhone and Android. Groups stay in sync in real time so everyone sees updates immediately, no matter their device.

5. Do I need to connect a bank account?

No. WhoPays keeps things simple: you record expenses manually, select who participated, and let the app handle the math. No bank access is requested or stored.

6. Can I record payments between members?

Absolutely. Use the direct pay flow to record a payment between two members. Balances adjust instantly and the history stays organized.

7. Do I need an account to use WhoPays?

No account or sign-in is required. Groups use anonymous join codes, so you can jump in instantly without sharing personal details.

8. How much does WhoPays cost?

WhoPays is free today. If we introduce paid upgrades, we will share details in advance and the core experience will stay friction-free.

Troubleshooting

1. My group is out of sync.

  • Check that everyone has a stable connection. Once devices go back online, the app will bring them up to date.
  • Ask members to pull-to-refresh in the group home view to force a sync.

2. Exchange rates look outdated.

  • WhoPays refreshes rates whenever you are online. If they seem outdated, try pulling to refresh or confirming your connection.
  • For rarely traded currencies, convert the amount to your group currency before adding the expense to keep balances accurate.

3. Someone can't join my group.

  • Ask an existing member to send a fresh invite link from the group so the join flow starts from the app.
  • Confirm the group is still active and has room for another member before resending the invite.
